Vachana sahitya was absolutely a revolution that happened in 12th century.
till then, most of (almost all) the poets had focused their literary works on narrating stories n writing stuff about their patrons.
and, most of them used to be in a hifi language that normal ppl were not having access to.
but vachans, were completely different. first thing was - the simplicity in the language - it was free from the influence of Sanskrit n other languages.
second - it was mainly focused to reach the public - irrespective of their caste n positions.
third - these writings were not just a pale narration of puranas n stuff. instead, they were the outcome of life's experience by the authors.
so, beyond the limits of poetry, they give a great exposure to life & the reality.
most important thing about Vachans movement was - the revolutionary vision to eradicate the evils like caste system, inequality n problems faced by women etc.
so, on a whole, 12th century was a golden era - in terms of literature n social reforms.
